Greek Music Workshop for Children led by professional musicians and educationalists. A great opportunity for all children and young people to become familiar with Greek music, instruments and rhythms. Children are welcome to bring their own instruments; some instruments will be provided. The workshop will include songs from different parts of Greece and their rhythms, lyrical content, traditions and legends hidden behind them will be analysed. Participants will be actively involved to this ‘hands-on’ workshop at the end of which there is going to be an informal performance for all parents and friends. Free entry. Homage à Chopin On the occasion of Chopin’s bicentenary, an artistic cross-collaboration between pianist Costas Fotopoulos, actor Alberto Bona and writer Josephine Hammond will give life to a most dramatic piano recital. The ghost of Chopin himself introduces the event, giving real insight into his music and into the unique exploration of an instrument he made his own; the piano. Highlights of the programme include some of his celebrated Nocturnes, the A-flat Polonaise, the Barcarolle, as well as a new composition by Fotopoulos: Homage à Chopin. Greek Painters of Istanbul Mayda Saris, Armenian editor and author in Istanbul, will give an illustrated talk in English on her book on Greek painters who were born or raised in Istanbul and contributed greatly to culture in the late Ottoman era. References will be made to selected works from Greek Orthodox churches and private collections, as well as the collections of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, the Halki Theological School and the Topkapı Palace. The author will be introduced by Nouritza Matossian, London-based Armenian Cypriot writer. Those who will be attending the lecture will have the opportunity to make donations towards the Julian Chrysostomides Memorial Bursaries in Byzantine and Hellenic Studies awarded annually to students of the Hellenic Institute in support of their studies and research. ‘Cinema ParadisoA Night at the Movies Internationally renowned soprano Katerina Mina and multi-award winning film music composer Roman Kariolou will be giving a concert performing music by Ennio Morricone (Once upon a time in the West), Max Steiner (Gone with the Wind) and Roman Kariolou (The Shadows), as well as music from the movies Cinema Paradiso, The Mission, The Ecstasy of Gold, Once upon a time in America, Malena and A Fistful of Dollars. During the concert, pictures from scenes of the movies will be projected, to reflect the mood and atmosphere of the movie, in this new and unique musical concept.
