Verdi/Shakespeare An illustrated lecture in English by Helena Matheopoulos on Verdi’s operas inspired by Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Otello and Falstaff, specially conceived for Verdi’s 200th Bicentenary. The talk will highlight the greatest, best known and loved duets and monologues from the plays and showcase the corresponding passages from the operas. Helena Matheopoulos is the author of eight books including Maestro: Encounters with Conductors of Today, Diva and Placido Domingo. Effie Saranti (rhythm guitar), Kostas Arsenis (double bass). Diminuita has been part of the orchestral gypsy swing scene since 2007; their performance is characterised by a clear, natural sound from acoustic instruments, freedom of musical expression, imaginative melodies and rhythmic maneuvers. Programme includes their own versions of Reinhatdt’s and Grappelli’s tunes, as well as of other composers’ of that era and their first cd "a-rhythmology", released in May 2011.
