Why do the Aegean Islands Matter so Much? An illustrated talk by Nigel McGilchrist, looking at how and why the unusual and challenging geography of the Aegean Sea, its islands, islanders and coastal settlers were instrumental in laying the foundation of the Western genius in sculpture, scientific thinking, social organisation and commerce. Nigel McGilchrist is author of the Blue Guide to Greece: the Aegean Islands and of a twenty-volume series of books, McGilchrist’s Greek Islands, covering the history, art and topography of the Aegean.
